The Quantib Brain tool is an excellent
example of the global transition from
qualitative image reading towards
more objective and more quantitative
reading. Part of the reporting will be
replaced by automatic analysis to
provide more objective information.
Quantib Brain requires a 3D T1-weighted
scan to analyze and quantify the brain
tissues. If an additional T2 FLAIR scan
is available, WMH are also quanti;ed.
The brain tissue analysis quanti;es
the volumes of gray matter, white
matter, and cerebrospinal ;uid (CSF).
The tissues and the CSF are overlaid
in di;erent colors on the T1-weighted
scan. WMH are quanti;ed both in
number (burden) and in volume on the
T2 FLAIR scan.

Brain atrophy can be assessed
using a qualitative rating system.
However, manually performing volume
measurements in brain scans is time
consuming and requires trained
observers. Likewise manually outlining
white matter hyperintensities (WMH)
or white matter lesions is also time
consuming and the result tends to have
a high interobserver variability.
In many research publications and
conferences, beautiful images of brain
tissue delineation and impressive
quantitative results are regularly
shown. Yet, the e;ort to get these
results usually requires many hours of
computer work plus some additional
tweaking for each scan. For clinical
practice, such an advanced analytical
tool should be fast, easy-to-use,
accurate, and ;t into a routine work;ow.

Brain for automated quanti;cation of
brain tissues and WMH. Quantib BV
was founded based on the technology
developed by Wiro Niessen, Chief
Scienti;c O;cer at Erasmus MC,

Quantib Brain includes a tool to
objectively assess brain changes in
longitudinal exams in neurodegenerative
and neuroin;ammatory disease.*
